If you have not already done so, please read Blog Posts 1 through 5 that describe how sleep is important and beneficial. I will post specific information for parents and children based on my book, “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child.” Please do not be put off by my book’s length. This is a reference book. Read only the topic of interest to you.
Raising children is not the same as training soldiers. But Blog Posts 1–5 describe how healthy sleep for children is similar to healthy sleep for soldiers based on FM7-22, the Field Manual published by the United States Department of the Army. A recent paper, ‘Sleep in the United States Military’ wrote:
“Achieving adequate amounts of restorative sleep is an ongoing problem that is critical for reasons of personal safety, unit performance, and even a matter of national security…Cognitive shortfalls in the ability to quickly learn, remember, and execute a specific task can lead to mission failure and can compromise individual and unit safety as well as national security.”
Healthy sleep in our children does:
Enhance safety, performance, learning, and remembering
Unhealthy sleep in our children does:
Cause cognitive shortfalls, failure to execute specific tasks, and compromises safety
